I concur. In autocross, we do 4-6 standing starts per event. I have  
never broken a belt on a start. I built an enclosure to keep stones  
out and use an idler to maximize the number of teeth engaged on the  
23T   drive pinion. I did break one once on an extremely rough course  
in Connecticut. The car was slammed to the pavement; I could feel it  
bottom out in the seat of my pants.
