I did not make the claim that TM worked 100% in eliminating tobacco 
use over the short term -- in fact, I linked to a site that, as you 
note, indicates that TM usually, but not always results in 
elimination of tobacco addiction within the time frame of the study. 

Over the long run, either people will give up TM or they will stop 
smoking (or maybe they will die, putting an end to the experiment). 
This cessation of bad habits is clearly indicated in the scientific 
research on tobacco and alcohol use by TMers -- it's a direction of 
less reliance on harmful substances because TM works to give people a 
feeling of well-being that makes them less likely to feel motivated 
to use harmful substances.
