I was wondering if you can shed light on an issue that has intrigued
me for some time.

My understanding for some time is that a jivanmukta (JM) is released
from the cycle of birth and death IN THE PHYSYCAL realm, that is the
sanskara in chitta related to physical desire and physical karma have
been roasted, nuetered or "healed/resolved" (choose your favorite
phrase or analogy, I prefer the third).

However, there still exist more subtle sanskara that correspond to
various lokas, generalized as astral and causal planes, that are
worked through via cycles of birth and death in those realms -- until
ultimate liberation is achieved -- videha mukti (VM).

Or on earth VM can be achieved, giving full release from all cycles of
birth and death.

Does that model correspond to you understanding? If not, please clarify.

Related is the question if VM has blossomed, and thus the FULL release
of cycle of birth and death has blossomed, then there still is a
choice or at least different paths followed by such non-entity
luminaries: "they" (which is a funny concept at that stage), can be
found to go back into rebirth in physical realm or any loka -- or
"they" may just BE -- as Brahman.

It is almost a meaningless question since what is the "they" when no
individuality is there. So "they" refers to some faint remains of
lashavidya, some collection of desireless abilities, that either by
"choice" -- whatever that means at that stage, or "assignment"
(another not well fitting concept), the VM takes rebirth. Or Not.
