I didn't laugh. I have spoken the same theme of the article countless times. Science which supports any religion is not science, and the end result of all Veda based initiatives will be return of caste and Hindu fascism.  I have been saying it ever since Maharishi showed me the true colors of Hindu fundamentalism by spouting all his antidemocracy bullshit. I figured that he is a smart man, very smart, so how much more true will all this be for those of more limited intelligence.

I'm sure George has considered this sati initiative, and sometimes sati is perhaps ok, like in the case of say, Mrs. Bush Jr. Perhaps a preemptive strike on Mrs. Bush will at the very least, free up cosmetic surgeon time, and at best, rid our planet of someone so confused as to consider the LaHayes series of trite and paranoid fundie novels literal masterpieces.

Even worse than Hindu fundamentalism is Christian fundamentalism where the powers of science while remaining different from the Creationist perspective are still seen as tools for pursuing the age old Crusades. Oops, did I say Crusades?  So did Bushy Bush in a classic freudian slip not too far back. Hindus at the very least are not WASPish, due to the huge variety of sub-Hindu elements. Whereas, the conservative right mostly has a color, and it is white. Moreover, the Hindu continent is not truely industrial and so cannot properly control and mechanize its subordinates, whereas in the West and America in particular people are so accostomed to technology that the soul of or society could easily be taken over by a few well placed machines with personality identifying nodes, which can allow or prevent coommerce and therefore prosperity. Imagine American Express as moral arbiter.

Ah shit, it's all going to hell in a handbasket. And the little old lady at Walmart who is checking receipts at the exit is in charge.

Hey, you laugh...wait till George W. Bush figures out that sati [widow-burning] can save money. It will go something like this:

BUSH PROPOSES NEW PLAN TO SAVE SOCIAL SECURITY BASED ON NATURAL LAW

UPI, Washington. George Bush announced today his new plan save Social Security.
Bush announced: "Based on clear scientific evidence we know that women traditionally live longer than men. In a unprecedented collaboration between the government of India and the United States, we have decided to support the ancient practice of Sati, a practice supported by Natural Law and the Will of God. In this religious-based initiate we will utilize Natural Law and the Will of God to reduce unnecessary expenditures by cutting post-mortem social security utilization costs in half. After the passing of beloved male janitors [trans.: progentitors], participating females will be given the option to join the cost-reduction savings plan and the possibility to pass the savings on to their own grandchildren. The collaboration is already underway with various western denominations as the "Arrive in Heaven Together" plan. Traditional burning ghats are already being built on several major US rivers close to existing rail infrastructure. This way we can assure the future solvency of Social Security into the future."
