The word sthitau means "settling down, stillness" and refers to using a 
seed/mantra in japa so the mind-field is free of all vrittis which are 
rajasic and tamasic. The object, the mantra, remains. Thus this is 
"seeded" meditation and ekagrata--one-pointedness. The commentaries on 
the YS which are part of the yoga-darshana give an exhaustive 
discussion of this, esp. of what defines "effort" (prayatna).
