Sigh, you dont understand theterms you are using, Vaj. If there is a consistent correlation between an "uptick in alpha coherence" and reports of episodes of transcendental consciousness, then the statistical significance is based on the correlation between the two meausres, not the size of the fluctuation. In fact, it isn't a "statistically insignificant" fluctuation anyway. What you probably meant to call it was "a fluctuation within normal ranges," but even that isn't necessarily correct. At the most extreme, alpha coherence during TM can lead to near-100% synchrony over a relatively large number of leads for short periods of time. How often this occurs vs the practice of other techniques or simply sitting quietly, isn't something that is addressed by any research I am familiar with. The software to automatically detect such extreme, short-lived synchrony isn't available, as far as I know because, I assume, no-one has observed such occurrences often enough to consider creating it. I may be wrong, of course, there's lots of odd software packages out there. An exampe of such unusual alpha synchrony events is found here --the right-hand chart: http://web.mac.com/lawsonenglish/Site/Meditation_EEG.html Click on the name of the article below the chart to get the pdf of the original.
