I don't see how. MMY's funding didn't take off til later as far as I 
know.

As far as I know, no-one is barred from using the title. Lots of 
people claim the title. BTW, a few months ago, an arrest order 
wasissued for Swami Saroopananda based on a complaint by Swami 
Vasudevananda that he was stealing from the temple.The arrest order 
was rescinded a few days later.
