I agree Turq,

"Someone dedicated solely to THAT." Code for "no boners." Grinning like a
five year old at his "big boy" party being showered with the kind of praise
usually reserved for the bonerless. That was a fascinating video for anyone
who witnessed the changing of the guards during Manarishi's life. Because
Maharishi himself was so often hardest on people who were closest when it came
time to discard and replace them.

Jerry IS Hegelin. He served the same role in his time and has the two teeth of
the elephant as required. Totally personally bought into a guru disciple
relationship, his job was to mask this with the "Aw shucks" common sense
appearance that made it possible to get at the kid in colleges with SIMS. Suit
and tie, dwelling on the most practical sounding aspects of the program, he was
our model as teachers. With the appearance of being completely candid he was a
totally hidden person, always "on" for the master. (Of course when I hung out
with him I was in my 20's so I can understand why he would keep his company man
shield up with me.) Even when he was being pummeled by jerk-offs Maharishi had
put in charge like Neil Patterson, he never let his feelings show. I think
Bevan's body language was from that era when trashing Jerry showed you were on
the new inner circle.

Jerry jumped the shark when he came to MIU in '76? to present the World
Government and to tell us the we lost the court case because of the personal
impure lifestyles of the initiators. Very Pat Robertson of him. Even when he
was announcing to teachers that their ATR credit had been taken away after the
fact he made it seem as if he was on their side. Tee hee.

Larry Domash was the first Hegelin and man could he talk! He made it all sound
so "sciency." Certified brilliant and certified full of shit. He jumped the
shark when the WHIMS physically carried him out in Seelisberg, or was it when
he got married in defiance or Maharishi's wishes? (Keith Wallace jumped the
shark when he knocked up the model so wieners have the downfall of many a
movement bigwig.)

When Hegelin came on board he was smooth as silk. I remember hearing him for
the first time. Always soft spoken but a tad less Madam Butterfly in those
days, he kicked our mental asses with his physics-speak. It made it all sound
sooo rational and super advanced and unified fieldtastic! The fact that he
would enter politics for Maharishi was his trial by fire I think. The
willingness to appear the fool in such a public manor earned him a spot on the
silk dais.

His professionally honed ass-kissing for the birthday boy probably was sincere.
As smart as that guy is I don't think he needs to be on the throne to make
things happen. So much more subtle than than the oafish, heavyhanded(literally
and figuratively) lout Beven (fat joke courtesy of PG Woodhouse: "He looks like
he was poured into his suit and forgot to say 'when!'" Hegelin serves the
"Jerry" role really well. He could trash your agreements with the movement
with a smile and make you go away with renewed optimism that next time the
movement would be fair.

The movement likes its saints dead or sidelined. For all the Jerry nostalgia,
he will not get a say in anything. For all the "enlightened uncle" vibe he
gets now after the vindictive and cruel Maharishi is gone (I saw it up close,
the guy was a prick to Jerry) he will be treated more like the doddering fool
uncle who you trot out at Thanksgiving and keep away from the grandkids.

He may shake his head a bit that now the movement wears its Hindu guru worship
on its sleeve, but he was always as all in as Raja Ram or Hegelin. Willing to
do anything for the Master they believe in with all their hearts with perfect
certainty. And the conclusion they draw from their beliefs is far from
personally humble. They are the toppermost of the poppermost by their
association with Maharishi. They are all versions of the Cheshire Cat Maharaja
who is just the made in China by child labor version of the great Maharishi
himself. Time to erect another tower to his greatness. (That is NOT a metaphor
guys.)
