People who are attached to karmic paths have a hard time "getting" pathless 
paths. In some kingdoms in India, such teaching were considered heretical, with 
a punishment of death (burning at the stake being a popular punishment). That's 
how intertwined the conceptions of karma were with Indian society. They could 
not and would not allow for something beyond cause and effect!
