The Christmas holiday practice of gift giving was apparently taken from the
pagan celebration of Saturnalia which included merry-making, drunkenness and
sexual orgies.

IMO, the Christian church fathers selected December 25 as the birth of Jesus
because of an ancient astrology belief. Specifically, since the Sun died on
December 21, it would be fitting for Christ to be born three days after to
commemorate the birth and rise of the new Sun.

Also, the entrance of the Sun into the sign of Capricorn signifies the birth
of the new Sun because it is placed on the 5th house (the offspring) from
Virgo, the sign of the Virgin or the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In any case, may you have a wonderful Christmas holiday as well!
