The USA does not have a pure capitalist economy. It is now a mixture of economic doctrines. Specifically, some industries are regulated, such as the power and gas companies. Even the housing rental market, in most big cities like San Francisco, is regulated which includes very strict codes for evicting tenants who are not paying their rent. Also, there is a current political movement to increase the minimum wage to $22 per hour, which is much higher than the current rate in California which is $8 per hour.
