Just to reiterate: No, I certainly never suggested that when a poster quotes MMY, it's not to back up the poster's point. It's *always* to back up the poster's point. The poster's point, however, may be that MMY is wrong or crazy or lying; or simply that he said B rather than A. The context in which they quote MMY should tell you that. And to add one final point: If you really can't tell from the context whether the poster believes what they've quoted MMY as saying is true, and it's actually relevant in context, then ASK, don't assume.
