I haven't read any of Franken's books so I can't say whether they're good or bad. But I can tell you why I'll never go out and buy one. Several years ago I saw a CSPAN event where both Bill O'Reilly and Franken were both speaking. Franken in his speech gave his evidence why he called O'Reilly a "liar" in his book. The main one he concentrated on was that O'Reilly claimed on his show that he won a Peabody Award. In actuality, O'Reilly never won a Peabody Award. But he did win another award that started with a "P". And it was so, so obvious that when O'Reilly said it one day on his broadcast that he mixed up his words and Peabody came out instead of the correct one. The oral equivalent of a typo. Now, I'm no O'Reilly fan. I find him arrogant and full of hot air. But for Franken to go to town on him for such a silly sleight and to call him a liar for it is petty and meanspirited. I've always been a fan of Franken's. Love all his SNL stuff AND I loved the Stuart Smalley movie. And I'll continue to love him. But he's lost all credibility for me when it comes to politics.
