You shoulda become a teacher; then you'd have
heard more lectures. :-)

What you said is pure Maharishi "sound is the
most subtle sense" jive. It's something that
people who have only transcended on mantras
tend to believe. Those who have transcended
on sight or touch or taste know that sound is
neither the most subtle sense nor the one most 
conducive to transcendence. It's just the one
that most people start with.
