I run into problems when I want two or more optional categories but one compulsory one, say
Product specials and press releases, but only for the category About Us.
Ahhh... the old "(cat1 OR cat2) AND cat3" trick :)
It could be done easily enough but its not a default part of the News Rule that ships out of the box. I think its ALL or ANY as an option.
