Gary,

Thanks for the advice but CrystalTech would not do this. They are a very reliable host and good price and I guess they have their procedures that they stick to.

What is the issue with the farcry_core and fourq directories being in the webroot?

Tim, thanks for the host information, I will check them out, although I
am keen to stay with CrystalTech based on my experience of host
reliability. Chris.

Creatop in Brisbane (www.creatop.com.au) are also about to offer FarCry
hosting packages.

However, most hosting companies DO give you "outside of root" access - at
least one directory out.

You usually get a directory for your site name - something like "mysite" -
and underneath that you get a WWW or HTML directory. And - depending on the
platforms hosted - you might get your own "cgibin" or "stats" or "logs"
directories.

If your provider does not want to set FarCry up for shared hosting, you
would put your farcry_core and fourq directories here - as well as all the
other sub-directories of a FarCry app and get them to set up mappings. The
easiest way to think about FarCry in a shared hosting environment is to
equate the FarCry app WWW directory to your WWW/HTML/PUBLIC_HTML directory
on your account and see if you can work backwards from there.

And if they dont work it that way, ask them to setup your site with an
additional level (they can point the root of your virtual site to anywhere
they want - they may have "standards" but there are always exceptions to
those).

Exposing the core farcry directories - including the "app core" - to public
access would be a bad thing.
