While farcry_aura is optional in one sense, you still need a "template" to be able to create up the directories and basic files needed for a FarCry install. The current "template" for this is farcry_aura. So, as far as I know (unless something has changed in recent installs) you need to have the farcry_aura directory installed. What IS optional is that you DONT have to use the Aura design for your site. You just either replace the header and footer files with whatever you want or you craft your own and make your type templates include those instead. > I think people just want to be able to play with the > advanced features right off-the-bat which is why we get some confused > people on the list. Maybe this is unreasonable -- maybe not? There isn't much that you can't play with right off the bat. The Aura template has containers, you can access all the rules in there. You can create up any of the content, setup your own categorisation and filter this in containers. Etc. etc. I am wondering what "advanced features" can't be played with. I also tend to agree with Geoff regarding Vignette and the other "please pay us lots of money" offerings. They really wont show you very much at all until you agree to sign on the dotted line. This is where I think there is a bit of an issue. From my experience on the FarCry lists (since the release of the first public beta) everyones idea of what the "power of FarCry" is differs. I think that Aura already does demonstrate that as I know a lot of others do as well. So I suppose it comes down to this........ Someone out there probably has to "donate" a FarCry site to the community so that it can be optioned up with all of the "standard" FarCry "things" that would allow the development community to "play". The FarCry site itself is not a suitable place for something like this because it has to remain "kosher" as a development/user resource. There used to be an ASP site dedicated to showing you how to build ASP sites - and you could always download the site in it's current form as a ZIP file. However, the above would take someone a considerable amount of time to maintain.
