I don't know if this pertains, but years ago (before Bart came on board), we had the 512 limitation and i was hit by it once on an old 486 i was playing with. From what i could figure, once the corruption happened (i never figured out what did it), it overwrote the bootsector of C: with what appeared to be a FAT table, which is what looks like is happening here.
