I'm a lurker and about two years ago I made a spoiler mistake and got
hit by about ten people about spoilers and a few just adding comments
like " This won't be pretty, here come the spoiler police." And I left
the list for a few weeks. So I agree with Jason. We know the reasons why
some people haven't read some of the books but I'm sure a lot of people
when they come on the list can't conceive why any fan wouldn't have
already read all the books and should be given a little bit of grace.

Adults in age only..

I say there should be one or two people who police this list.

Being a tad more understanding and polite to people making a mistake
wouldn't go astray either.

Hey Jason. I like the thoughts, but it would take a lot more
than that to scare me off :D Plus to me watching so many people bicker
over something so trivial is kind of funny because I would wager most of
them like myself are adults.

        Ray,

I will point out that if 15 people hadn't felt the need to pile
on with the
exact same comments, this discussion would have been over long
ago.

My intention was not to argue or create dissension or even to
demand that rules
be changed. It was simply to point out an opinion. If that is
discourteous and
cause for removal from the list, then this is not the place for
me anyway, in
spite of the fact that I have spent about a decade here.

        To the rest of you,
You know what else is rude? Not taking 5 minutes to read
through a thread to
see if the comment you want to make has already been made - in
this case about a
        dozen times.

Is it any wonder that new posters make one post and then are
never heard from
again? God help them if they screw up a spoiler space or
violate some other
list rule that is in the FAQ. They'll be subjected to an inbox
full of identical
replies pointing out what a dipshit they are.

This is not the first time I've said this, but it bears
repeating: this list is
incredibly unfriendly to new members. John didn't know the rules
and made a
simple mistake. Now, we've had a three day discussion on the
value and necessity
of spoilers, which will end with yet another new member run off,
and perhaps
several more who will simply walk away with no fanfare.

Do we really need 15 list cops in here? Especially ones who
won't even take the
time to read the other posts in the thread? Fact is, the very
first "here's why
we have spoilers" post was sufficient. But the next 10 just
serve no useful
purpose, and make the posters look like assholes.

Oh dear God, I just top posted this reply. Armageddon.

        Regards,
        Jason
