Hi Steve,
What a terrible blow indeed; I am so sorry you had this dreadful news.
I think your plan to take one vet visit at a time is a good one. What test did they do? The ELISA (in office) or the IFA (sent out to a lab)? There ARE false positive results on the ELISA and not to get your hopes up, but with a cat who is sick, sometimes an underlying sickness can affect serology. I would ask for the IFA to be done, if it hasn't, and then have a complete panel of blood work done. That will tell you a lot; for example, if Squeaky is anemic, if any of her values are out of line, etc.
Are you planning to start Squeaky on Interferon if she is indeed positive? If you read through the archives, or read some of the articles on the main felineleukemia.org website, you will learn of a variety of supplements many of us use. Here's a short list:
L-Lysine
CoQ10
DMG
Vitamin C
digestive enzymes (such as Prozyme)
and many more. What are you feeding? A really high quality diet is important. One of the best articles I have ever read on feline nutrition can be found at Dr. Jean Hofve's website:
I refer folks to it all the time and everyone has always given positive feedback about the information on it.
I hope this helps; take care and give Squeaky a big hug!

I just found out a couple of days ago, that my cat, Squeaky, has FeLV.Wev'e had her for about 3 1/2 yrs,and she was about a yr old when we found her in our water heatercloset,in the dead of winter,at our Apt complex. We had her fixed, and she got all of her shots, and we thought they tested for FeLV,because we did request it.The last few weeks she was sluggish, and skittish, but seemed to be getting better. We thought it was from stress,as a result of moving, and having some work done on our house. When we took her,and our 2 other cats to the Vet,to be dewormed, and have their shots, she was running a fever of 104,so the vet put her on Clavamox for a week. When we took her back the next week, she still had a fever of 103,so they tested for FeLV,and it came up positive. The Vet has her on Baytril right now,and we take her back next week, for a follow up.The fever seems to be the only sympton, and she is still eating, and getting around, but still a little sluggish. After losing a cat from FeLV,the yr before we found her, this has been a trememdous blow.We thought we were in the clear. Our two other cats have there shots, and have been tested negative in the past, and seem to be doing fine, but we will have them tested again.Since our house is small,it will be almost impossible to keep them seperated, and it has been reassuring to know that quite a few people on this site, have mixed + and -,without any problems. Our two other cats are Adults, and that seems to be a factor. We are going to keep her healthy, and alive as long as possible. When we lost our other cat to FeLV,it broke our hearts, and realised how ignorant of this dreadful disease we were, and kept our other cats immunised and indoors, isolated from other cats.Squeaky could have had FeLV when she was born, who knows.Right now all we know to do is take it one vet visit at a time, and are wanting to learn as much as possible about this disease.Your input is greatly appreciated.Steve, and Squeaky
