I have heard that cats normally do not communicate vocally with each other,
but use other means (except for sometimes, like growling). They communicate
vocally with us in response to our vocalizations. I have found that my most
vocal cats have been the ones raised by humans rather than cats. my negative, who
lives separate from my positives and was a sole cat from kittenhood to 6
years old with an elderly couple, talks literally all day long. I have never known
a cat who talks so much. But I think it's because he has spent all his time
with humans rather than cats. Ferals are just the opposite.
