I think some cats just don't meow.  I have one that I thought must not be able to meow.  Then one day I heard a very soft one.  He rarely makes a sound.  If he does it's more like a little squeak.  He's not feral, but a little timid.

That's ok though, because another one of mine meows constantly, driving me crazy!

Hi Jill
You've just struck a chord with me. NONE of my 6 ferals/FeLV kits has
EVER miaowed in the 10 months I've had them, except once they were in
the cage after I trapped them for spaying/neutering.
Anyone know why this is??? I'd never come into contact with either FELV
or feral cats before so I don't know if this is 'normal'.
I like to think it's because they're so happy...but I suspect the real
reason is otherwise??

What we had been thinking about naming her (before we
thought she would die within the week) is "Gary".
Which is not very feminine but it's short for
garrulous! - one of those cute, ironic names because
she doesn't ever meow. EVER.

It's also the name of Spongebob Squarepants' pet
snail, although I think he is a boy snail. :)

I have told her if she starts eating on her own she
will get a new bed to sleep in and a name!
