Sally,
What was originally a tragic ordeal is quickly
becoming a controversy. I strongly suggest that you
step down from your soapbox and let this matter drop.
I posted my situation in hopes to not only get some
supportive feedback, but to also acquire some helpful
suggestions. I have successfully received both.
I am so sorry if you are unhappy that, at this time,
cannot afford an animal communicator. But quite
frankly I cannot afford ANY of it.
The three (3) alternatives that I have put some
serious thought into purchasing are the thyroid and
parathyroid evaluations, disposable incontinence pads
and the product called "Cat Attract." However, I never
stated I had the money for any of it.
A 30-minute consultation costing around $40-75 dollars
as well as long-distance telephone calls are a lot of
money if you do not have it. Being how you are
currently unemployed and have furkids of your own to
care for, I am sure you can relate. I was never
looking for charity, just for some advice.
I do not appreciate you ramming the animal
communicator suggestion down my throat. Although I do
appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule
to contact these nice folks on my behalf.
Nor do I appreciate your hostility with the idea that
I am not TRYING to rectify this matter, because I AM
trying to help myself as well as Dartagnan, hence my
posting the situation to the group to begin with. I
find it extremely offensive that you would accuse me
of otherwise. I have been "trying" for the past two
(2) years and have not yet given up.
I understand your strong and positive feelings toward
animal communicators. I hear you loud and clear.
However, since I have no prior experience with these
gifted individuals I have yet to share your same
views. Everyone has their own opinions about animal
communicators and I imagine that it comes to no
surprise that I have my own.
Would I rather place my health in a doctor's hands or
a psychic's? Well, that depends on what you believe
in. As Dartagnan's pet guardian, I always do what is
in his best interest. However, that does not always
imply that I will trust his welfare to a palm reader.
When my kid is sick, I do what any normal mother would
do. I take him/her to the doctor. Is modern day
medicine better than faith or a psychologist? I do not
know. All I know, is that me and/or Dartagnan has a
problem that we cannot name and I am doing everything
within my power to correct it.
Out of the original four (4) veterinarians who were
working together on Dartagnan's case has not been for
"virtually nothing." True, I may not know the EXACT
reason for his spraying, but I have learned that
overall his is a normal, healthy cat.
According to several veterinarians whom I have worked
with over the years, it is not absolutely abnormal for
a male (or female) cat to spray after a spay/neuter
operation. Although, I can say that I definitely do
NOT like it much (who would) but the veterinarians do
not seem overly surprised with the developments. To
this day, three (3) out of four (4) are still willing
to work with me and Dartagnan. I still have their
support and concern.
I understand that Dartagnan cannot speak for himself
and obviously spraying is the only way that he can
communicate that something not to his liking. However,
he knows that I love and care for him. He will have to
do what my other kids do and that is to trust me. I
will do whatever is in his best interest.
This is EXACTLY what people have to do every day when
they hire a lawyer or visit a physician. When people
are in need of assistance they go to those would can
help.
I may not be a board certified licensed veterinarian,
an animal behaviorist or an animal communicator, but I
AM his mother who has twenty-six (26) years of broad
range experience with felines, who is learning more
every day. It is more than what some people have.
I agree. You "dare say" too much! Out of twenty-six
(26) years of experience in caring, loving, adopting,
fostering and rescuing felines, I have yet to meet one
(1) single solitary person that has allowed a cat to
literally destroy their home AND was willing to spend
approximately $12,000 dollars to repair the damages!
And STILL keep the cat!
If I am wrong and there is another person or people
who have done the EXACT same thing, then I want to
personally shake his or her hand! My hat is off to
you! Not many pet guardians would have done what you
and me did.
Sally, if your main concern is with the possibility of
euthanatizing Dartagnan, then do not concern yourself
any longer. I have not done it yet and since I hold
extreme emotions opposing the idea I seriously doubt
that I will be able to bring myself TO do it.
Personally, I would not be able to live with myself if
I had. However, MANY people would have done it a LONG
time ago for LESS reasons than spraying!
I AM at my wits end and I have EVERY right to be
frustrated, but I do not understand why you would be
angry with the way I feel or with the way I have
handled the issue thus far. You are unsatified with
the fact that I am not spending MORE money in the
areas in which you feel are more important i.e.
consulting an animal communicator vs. a veterinarian?
I am sorry, but have done more than what most people
would do and Dartagnan is still alive, living with me!
If I had the extra money to spend, I would. Matter of
fact, I never ruled out the option of contacting an
animal communicatior. I do believe what I said was:
"Whenever I find the money I will be more than happy
to contact an animal communicator. As of right now, I
simply cannot afford it."
Again, I want to personally thank each and every one
(1) of you who has expressed concern and suggestions
on this matter. I sincerely appreciate it. Knowing
that I can turn to this particular group for advice
and support means the world to me.
I apologize if I have offend anyone with my responses.
That was never my intention. I never meant for this
issue to get so heated and the group has my deepest
apologies. I absolutely despise "flame wars" as they
are completely pointless and before me and Dartagnan's
situation turns into one (1), I will conclude this
post finished. It just saddens me that this
conversation has went this far.
The group has my word that topics such as this will
never again be bought up in the future. Thank you all
for your kindness, suggestions, advice, support and
concern.

Dear Lora:
So what is your price range? I have told you that
I am quite sure Jasmine would be willing to work with
you in terms of a discount, give time to make
payment or maybe even for gratis, but you can't just
sit there and say it isn't possible when you haven't
even tried.
I sent Jasmine an e-mail and forwarded to her your
original post to the talklist about Dartagnan.
I've also indicated to you that there is a student
of AC who might be willing to help you at no charge
(just in return for an evaluation) if she is not too
busy.
I sent Madelina an email and briefly described your
problem. I am hoping that she will contact you.
Most people don't become AC'ers because they are out
to make big bucks like Sonja Fitzpatrick who is on TV
and popular with the Hollywood set (she gets
something like $350 per consult or more!) But they do
deserve to be compensated for their services, just
like anyone else.
I dare say you have spent hundreds on vet calls that
have told you virtually nothing. You've considered
spending money on more tests, or diapers or Prozac,
etc. Yet you insist you can't afford to give Dartagnan
a chance to tell you his side of the story?!!?
You say you've spent thousands on repairing the
damage he's done to your house and are just about
ready to send him on the big sleep if he doesn't
change his ways.
A 30-minute consult would probably cost between
$40-75, and there is a good chance that if you explain
your dire circumstances, someone like Jasmine or
Patricia, who are both very compassionate people,
would be very understanding and be willing to help you
for whatever you could afford to pay.
Believe me, saving a cat from being PTS because he is
being misunderstood, perhaps, is more important to
them than making a few $. If you are able to
understand WHY Dartagnan is doing what he is doing,
won't it be easier to decide what to do about it?
Can you imagine what it must be like for animals when
we are so dense and just don't understand what they
are trying so hard to tell us?
I am trying to get ready to go out of town tonight
and don't have any more time or I could tell you about
some of my experiences with animal communication.
It is not hokus pokus, it is a very real phenomena.
If I had a choice between winning the lottery and
being able to communicate psychically with animals,
I would choose the latter, in a heartbeat.
I dare say you are probably a lot better off
financially than I am. But if I have to make a choice
between taking one of my cats to a vet or "talking" to
them when faced with a situation that baffles me, I
have found my money much better spend in "talking" to
the cat first.
Would you like to go to a doctor that you could not
communicate with and have him/her prescribe
medications and treatment just by looking at you?
Would you want to be in a courtroom and not be able
to speak in your own defense nor have a lawyer who
could speak on your behalf, with your life hanging in
the balance?
I wish I had a few extra dollars...I would gladly pay
to give Datagnan a chance to express himself, but I am
unemployed with umpteen furry mouths to feed and so
far in the hole $-wise right now I don't want to think
about it.
I do hope you will decide to make an effort to
follow up on the suggestions more than one of us has
given you and find a way to "talk" directly with
Dartagnan.
Wishing you a peaceful holiday season and hoping you
will get some answers to your problem. Take care...
Sally in San Jose
