Hysteria (instead of informed and effective action) also makes things worse. But one person's informed prudence may be misinterpreted as hysteria by others who can't change their mind and can't change the subject. Reforming bad habits (like touching face) and developing new habits (coughing into elbow) is worth more attention than TV/web pontification. If LFNW goes forward, please invite nursing students from BTC and Whatcom Community College to drift through the crowd and teach willing geeks healthier habits, informally and ongoing throughout the weekend. Perhaps tags for badges, with "I'm a health habits teacher" or "Teach me better health habits" or "STOP BOTHERING ME" so attendees can sort themselves out. Humans are crowding into cities; whether COVID-19 is a Big Deal or not, we should learn better habits before COVID-30 or EBOLA-40 emerges as a REALLY Big Deal. If there are any 3D printing buffs in the audience, an amusing project would be developing an N95-grade plastic exhale valve that can be punched into a cheap painter's mask. Won't make it full N95 grade, but it would be better than nothing. You can imagine other ways that community technology can help turn a crisis (of whatever size or cause or blame) into a smaller crisis. We are problem solvers. I rarely get to LFNW from Portland. I don't drive anymore, and transit is slow. An online version of LFNW would be interesting, especially if open formats and wiki-like editing helps us extend and enhance the presentations into the future. Initiate in April - continue development and conversation of the topics for the rest of the year. Enjoy April, whether it is in Bellingham or in your bunker!
