Thanks to all who wrote about means of saving fall colors, from photography to glycerin, with quite a few votes for waxed paper, and one for dipping the whole leaf in wax. I will probably do the waxed paper approach, and then see if I can find some embroidery floss to match the colors while they are fresh.
That is, of course, assuming we can get out to collect some leaves! The weather has been unbelievably rainy and chilly and windy and cloudy, after a hot, long, dry summer.
