This is your chance to stock up on all kinds of handspun yarns, roving (natural and dyed) and raw fleece, including Michigan-grown wools and "exotics." Lots of spinning wheels, carders, and other fiberarts-related equipment and supplies will be available, as well as books; woven, knitted and felted finished items; sheepskins and pelts; quilting and felting batts. Instructor Pat Tirrell is an engaging and encouraging teacher who will get you started spinning or improve your beginners skills. Drop spindles, wheels and fiber will be provided for the workshop but please do bring your wheel along if you have one. Fiber selection and preparation is also covered. Saturday, October 18, 2003; Oregon Celia Quinn Workshop: Spinning to a Specification. Learn to monitor the diameter and twist of your yarn in simple ways to develop greater consistency. Practice expanding your skills by spinning yards of widely different sizes and twists. Topics covered include making a successful singles warp yarn, a balanced 2 ply yarn, gossamer yarn, and spinning for a specific knitting gauge.
