Since we are discussing various maladies here, I would like to get some
feedback on my hands. In the past few weeks, my fingertips look as if they
have been soaking in water for hours, all prune-like, and I have tiny bumps
under the skin of my fingers and palms. It is not painful but itches from
time to time. Also, sometimes the bumps break into little blisters on the
surface of my skin. I have been knitting more than usual, trying to start a
knitted purse business, designing patterns and also selling the finished
product. Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea what it is? I
can barely feel my fingertips anymore!

Thanks in advance,

I cannot handle commercial mohair, yet I have an angora goat and can
handle him, shear him, and spin his fleece with no problem. My
conclusion is that it is something (sizing?) that is put on the mohair
as it is commercially prepared - though I cannot wear a commercial
mohair sweater even after washing! Occasionally I get a lot of requests
for mohair shawls and end up (with great regret) doing a warp. I hate
it and can only weave for a few minutes a day without swelling up like
a balloon with hives all over my face and arms .... sigh.

I have also found that I cannot go into a fabric store anymore and
touch things. I also get hives. If I buy a fabric it comes straight
home and into the washer before I deal with it.
