Heck.. as long as it's really clean why not? If I weren't going to show the skeins (competition) I wouldn't necessarily block it either (with or without washing).

I also will admit that almost all the time I DO wash (vs. simply blocking) and dry on a blocker vs. just putting it away. If I were spinning specifically for the piece to be knit and knitting immediately I wouldn't though.. I've found that just handling yarns (knitting, spinning) is enough to have a degree of "dirtiness" to occur. It's just easier to "remember" what's clean when it all is, and I've so many odd "balls" (left overs and things I've spun for specific projects then not used, etc.) that knowing anything I grab is squeaky without having to mark it or any further mental gymnastics... The larger the stash, the more you get to appreciate not having to remember (or mark or keep an inventory, etc, etc.). Well.. maybe it's the older I get the more I appreciate it <ggg>...
