The trick that helped me - a really long and hard spin in the washing machine will help physically push the crud out. Are you using a hella lot of water per pound of fleece? Enough detergent that the water feels slippery? Not letting the wash water cool below 140 F? Try pouring in some rubbing alcohol to help cut the grease, too.
