All the advice so far about washing that wool is great - but remember,
please, to do a vinegar rinse when you're done with all that ammonia,
soda ash, alcohol etc.
All these products are pretty corrosive to the wool as well as the
grease, and a few glugs of vinegar (the cheapest kind will do just fine)
in the next-to-last rinse will help restore the Ph level so the wool
doesn't end up quite so harsh and damaged.
