I LOVE using the trapeze! It truly makes beaming a breeze :)
However, I have two issues that I hope some of you can help with.
One is, the trapeze can only handle beaming the warp to the point where
the weights are located as near the end as possible, and then you have
to sling them over something else. I start with the breast beam, then
hang them from the castle. Still, at the point where the weights MUST
come off, there's quite a bit of extra warp--at least 18 inches more
than needed for threading, tieing on, etc. So I end up enlisting the
help of DD or DH to wind the warp on a bit more while I hold it. What
do the rest of you do?
And #2 is that the edges will always be tighter than the centers of each
section of warp weighted. I've done searches on the net and haven't
found any instance in which this issue is dealt with. I am frequently
frustrated by 'smiling' selvages as I weave, and even though they
usually don't show after the piece is washed and ironed, I feel offended
by such evidence of uneveness :) Anyone know how this can be at least
lessened?
And related to all this, of course, is Kati Meek's book on warping with
a trapeze. I've only read one review, which makes it sound like the
book deals more with building a trapeze than using it. Anyone have this
book? Does it deal with issues like these I've mentioned? I don't want
to buy it if I've already figured out what it covers.
Thanks!
Holly
