Holly, maybe what is happening is that all the dye is striking the top
of your "pile' of fiber and there isn't any left to strike at the bottom
by the time it seeps thru. Not enough dye for the amount of fiber??
The idea of adding the acid AFTER the dye may help with this. Maybe
your container is too crowded? You can experiment. I have a couple
pounds of somewhat ratty, cheap roving that I use for fun experiments
like this, and to test out color combination ideas. My favorite method,
though, if you want to be sure that all of the fiber is dyed, is to
stretch it out on saran wrap as was described earlier.
