Spin-Off made a conscious decision to turn away from long technical and
historical articles that many felt were dry and boring. Instead the
editors wanted the magazine to become chatty and friendly as if it were
your local spinning group. I think they succeeded in their goal.

Projects are now doable by the average person (and sometimes look it).
The little yarn samples are something anyone can do in a short period
of time and feel like they're participating. And with so many short
articles, everyone's bound to find something of interest.

Personally, I adored those long articles (the more scientific the better).
And I prefer to read about projects that are artistic or technical masterpieces
and out of my league. But I have friends who turn to the yarn samples section
first and love to check whether anyone they know is listed.

Maybe it's not possible to cater to both crowds in one magazine.
