I have been spinning for several years now and would like to get my loom set
up to start weaving. I have joined a guild with an excellent library and
have been devouring older issues of both Handwoven and Spinoff. What a
difference in the quality of writing, content and length of articles. The
older Spinoff articles were often 6-7 pages with great detail, especially
for those of us who are on our own in terms of learning. I was amazed at
the technical information for beginners in Handwoven relative to what is
there now. It is sad to see this happen. I have not purchased the last few
issues of Handwoven, as I was not interested in the projects and they had
very little technical content.
I think this is a symptom of our society though. At least here in North
America, everything is about how quickly can I get it done - instant
gratification. I read an older article by Rita Buchanan where she spun the
yarn for a beautiful blouse and wove the fabric, and then she spun the yarn
for the knitted collar. Truely a piece worth looking at and quite
inspirational.
Thank you for allowing me to voice my opinion as well. I think I will send
a letter to Interweave with my thoughts.
Silvia
