I wonder if some of the change has been because there are more books
being published that target one particular part of the craft - just
thinking off the top of my head on the 1st Jan 07. Knitting Ganseys,
the book with the shawls, Summer&Winnter, Lace weaving, various
others that are floating in my brain but it still fogged from a
rather late nite, fine food/wine!
I know that there have always been books but usually they have been
more general which have covered a lot of ground. i.e. Key to Weaving
which at one point was the "bible" for those starting out.
And then of course there are sensitivity which someone today
mentioned about rearing sheep which probably doesn't sit well with
the books on shelves @ the bookstore. And are people prepared now to
write for the 'zines.....I have heard over the years from various
sources that it's getting more difficult and much of the time the
editor slices large chunks out of articles which leaves the reader
sometimes confused. Script must fit the page stuff and not over run
to something more important.
