I hate it too, but don't know what options I have for my rabbits in treating
wool mites. When I inject it, I always end up with sores at the injection
site a week later. Many rabbit owners give it orally, but I can't imagine
what it would do to their little tummies if it leaves sores on their skin.
ANY ideas would be greatly appreciated. We are going to look into using DE
and Listerine (heard this one from a French Angora judge) as alternatives. I
did use it for years with my horses, mainly because it kills bot flys, and is
one of the only dewormers which does. I switched to herbs for the goats and
horses, and have had very clean fecal counts.

We are fairly certain my beautiful Aussie bitch was permanently damaged by
accidental exposure/injection of ivermectin. I kept my rabbits at a friend's
farm, where they had horses. They had just dewormed everyone with Ivermectin
paste when Ashley suddenly went down hill. She nearly died, but never fully
recovered. I am extremely careful with that stuff, since I have her son now,
and certainly don't want a repeat of the nightmare I went through with his
mom.

I have also had, before I knew better, many a deformed litter from my rabbits
if I treated for mites with ivermectin during pregnancy. I have found reports
that it will cause cleft palate in rabbits in utero. Wish I could find that
again to share.
