Well, here's what works for me (your mileage may vary). When blending, first I make sure I've prepared the individual fibers - whether drumcarding or combing them. Then I layer the lot while feeding them in. In your case, I'd do a layer of wool, then a layer of silk, then a layer of wool...ad nauseum based on the size of the carder teeth, always beginning and finishing with the wool. Now I doff that batt, and tear it into strips, then stretch the strips wide and feed through again. Most of the time I'll do all the prep steps for the entire batch at the same time. Then I can combine strips from different batts for a more homogeneous mixture. I usually tear and recombine the strips several times, doff the final batts, and I'm ready to go.

Clear as mud, perhaps, but I hope you get the idea. I'm sure there are other methods, too.
