Johannes is correct (for now). The memory handling thing on OS X
is not the same as the old Mac OSes. He's speaking from actual
experience. I'm able to independently verify his conclusion over
here in Vancouver. I regularly run Finale, Mail, OmniWeb,
CodeWarrior, BBEdit, Project Builder, Interface Builder, Acrobat
Reader, Terminal, IconCompo, PropertyList Editor, utilities
activated at startup, plus other one-shot apps like Stuffit
Expander, Console, and GhostScript with no problems.

I will admit that it does take a while to get used to not having
to quit one's browser in order to have enough memory for
something else!
