And so it came to pass that Andrew Stiller spake:
>OK, I'm writing this from my new iMac, and I can see that getting it >configured is gonna be a long, hard slog. > >First batch of questions: > >1. How do I import my extensive sets of Eudora filters and >addresses into whatever this machine's own e-mail program is called? I just moved Eudora across to my new machines and kept using that. >2. How do I import my Internet Explorer 5.x favorites from my old >machine into the same program on the new one? System Folder/Preferences/Explorer/Favorites.html Move that doucument to the same place on your new machine and you will have your bookmarks. >3. I thought System X "classic" was the same as System 9. I gather >not. Are my old applications likely to crash in classic mode or not? I don't think they are generally likely to crash, but you may have trouble with some OS9 programs that want to use external devices like MIDI interfaces, scanners etc. An oft recommended step (until OSX is really cooking) is to partition your hard drive into two and install a second, separate, clean copy of OS9, one that is not related to OSX. and then reboot into that when you need to use software that has trouble in "classic" mode. >4. I have an immense number of fonts, wh. I had been managing w. >Suitcase. Do I still need this on the new machine, or do recent Mac >systems finally have intelligent font management built in? I think the management is still the same. > >5. Ditto for RAMdoubler. Is there any point in my trying to port it >onto the new machine? Leave Ramdoubler as a quaint relic of the 20th century (along with space doubler). Especially with OSX's improved memory management. How much RAM did you get in your imac. You want at least 500Mb. I'd being going for 750-1gig if running OS-X.
