I tried to search the database of postings for this newsgroup (not the digests), but the interface appears to down, so I apologize if the topic is well discussed.
I need to make some edits, revisions, to music published by C.F. Peters and the other major publisher's at the turn of the century, 1900. I scan the music in and then make correction etc. I've come across some major ommissions and would like to create corrections that resemble as close as possible the style of engraving for the work in question. I am wondering if anyone has done a study of matching currently available fonts with certain publisher's styles and drawn any conclusions. For example, does Finale's Engaver's font pretty much match much of Peter's style? Does the Brahms font come close to Schirmer's editions around 1900? Any opinions or recommendations, as well as leads to technical material about custom fonts for use with Finale would be helpful. Also, is there a searchable database of all the archives somewhere other than Colorado College's site? If such a searchable database where online, would it be a welcomed resource?
