As far as I > can tell, returns are completely ignored in the Edit Lyrics box. I > typically like to enter the text with hard breaks according to the line > breaks in the verse. As background, I am on a windows platform. Much of my work to date has involved polyphonic choral music, where some phrases may be repeated differently in each voice. Thus, I have found it most expedient to type the full lyrics for each voice in, in full. The practice I have thus far evolved is to begin in the "Edit lyrics", and type a label to each part ("[Soprano 1]") followed by a space, followed by the first word of the text of each line, followed by the last word of the text for each line. After the labels, and the first and last words of each line are typed in, I size my labels to a different point size than the rest of the text, for example, if the lyric size is 15 points, then I may set the labels to 20 points. I then use "click assignment" to assign the first word of each line to the first note of its respective part, and use "type into score" to type the balance of the text. Now, what I found [Note: this may have been installed in Fin2k3; I've not installed it yet, so haven't checked to see if this has been fixed] is this. Imagine that I make an error in entering the text, entering a two syllable word ("father") as having three syllables ("fa-t-her"), and imagine further that the proper place for the second syllable is the second note following the note assigned to the first. If I correct this in "type into score", I can remove the 't' from the intervenient syllable, and prepend it to the proper syllable. If I then go to the "edit lyrics" box, I find that in that place, the string "fa--ther" appears. I can remove the second hyphen, resulting in "fa-ther", and when I go back to the score, all of the syllables are attached to their appropriate syllables. However, if I go straight to the dialogue box, and edit out the "t-" there, when I go back to the score, I find that all following syllables have shifted left by one note, and the last note in the line now shows the label of the next line. Using the "shift lyrics" option is not effective in moving the altered syllables back to where they belong. Suppose, though, that I have made the opposite mistake, that is, entered "father" as a one syllable word instead of a two syllable one; if I make the correction in the "edit lyrics" box, subsequent syllables shift to the right, and, if the balance of the line has been completed, the label is now considered as the first syllable of the next part. "Shift lyrics" is not effective in reversing this. On the other hand, if I make the corrections in "type into score", this shift does not occur. ns _______________________________________________ Finale mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
