The job was pretty much finished by the early '80's. *Of course* there are exceptions, but the envelope-pushing of the Beatles or Brian Wilson that was part and parcel of rock in the latter half of the 60's is almost completely missing today. Jimmy Webb, like Burt Bacharach, are now regarded as pop songwriters, not really rock, but those distinctions weren't made during those years in the '60's when everything coexisted on the radio. Doug
