I seem to recall a Dave Bruebeck tune that went 2-2-2-3, 2-2-2-3, 2-2-2-3, 3-3-3. Anyone remember the title? Anyone have the notation? What time signature does he use?

FWIW, I use a modified version of Varese's single-digit signatures (wh. he in turn got from Lully). If the meter is compound, I put a dot after the number, so the meter above wd. be notated "3 + 1." and the last measure "3." (the dots in my sigs are bigger, and vertically centered, but you get the idea). In the rare circumstance that a value other than the quarter or dotted quarter gets the beat, I use traditional denominators; 9/16 time, for instance, would be given as "3./8" . I must say I've never, in the 37 years I've been doing this, had to explain it to anybody. Performers seem to catch on right away.
