Well, first off, I have no intention of upgrading Finale beyond WinFin2K3 until such time as Coda implements some kind of key escrow program to guarantee that if they go out of business their applications will continue to be usable. Second, I doubt that Human Playback will realize trills the way *I* want them realized, which is different for different tempos and sometimes has a non-written-out termination and sometimes don't. Sometimes one lingers a long time on the first note, sometimes one doesn't. Of course, I assume you can control whether the trill starts on the main note or from above (something Tobias's plugin can't do), but I doubt you can do it on a trill-by-trill basis, which is required in many kinds of music. Third, "upgrade" is not a very good answer to a problem like this, especially if it existed before WinFin2K3 (which I don't know). My guess is that it was introduced when staff styles were introduced, which was Finale98, if I'm not mistaken. Upgrades bring with them all sorts of problems, and this one seems to itself be caused for me personally by an upgrade (it worked fine in WinFin97), so I can't say what new problems I'd be gaining in upgrading to fix this one. > On the other hand I think the problem with the spacing should be > reported. Well, I need to confirm that other people can reproduce it and it's not just something flakey about my settings. So far, one person says they can't and a couple of others have said they could. I don't understand why blank notation should affect spacing. Perhaps other kinds of alternate notation should affect spacing, but blank notation worked fine in WinFin97 in regard to spacing. If it's confirmed that everyone has this problem, then I'll definitely report it. But I do need to know if it's also a problem in Finale2K4. -- David W.
