Hi all,

I remember reading a while back about how Finale sometimes overwrites a file when more than one file is open....<details snipped>...

I suspect this operational paradigm has been the case since at least 2k1, as it would account for some of the methods I use when working with a file.

When I go to save, if there are any unmodified, unactive files open, I save them before saving an active file, and I save almost all files twice, on different drives.

FWIW, my procedure with Finale (WIN) is:

Open existing document. If creating from template, immediately use "save as" to define the file name and preserve template.

Have automatic save turned on. (If you do, too, Christopher, check to see if an ASV of the missing file exists)

Whenever I make intentional saves of a document, I save the document in two different directories, preferably on different drives.

If I have more than one open window, I save [OK, try to save] edits in an active window before going to a different one. Yes, twice.

I almost always use "save as" instead of "save"; save is automatic, and doesn't always show where you are saving to, while "save as" always (at least in my experience) shows the name of the last file you saved
