Johannes is correct -- if you need to, for instance, zap the PRAM or
something like that, you will be stuck in OS 9 for the next boot. Once
you've started up into OS 9, though, you can use XPostFacto to ensure
that the next time you restart (and on all subsequent restarts, barring
another PRAM reset), you will boot into OS X. Apple's Startup Disk
control panel doesn't work for this -- in my case, at least, it never
has -- but XPF does, which is why it's such a life-saver for those of
us with older hardware.

One reason why I don't want to have OS 9 on this box is that it messes
up the boot process on an irregular basis. Ever since making it an OS
X
only machine, startup is very solid. If I have to Fix Permissions or
Reset Password, then my OS 9 Installer CD is fine for re-selecting the
boot disk (and it sticks that way). Just have to slip in the CD very
quickly after the Restart process has commenced. Anyway, I'll probably
find out this weekend.
Yes, but I think this won't work for Panther, at least it doesn't on my
Wallstreet. The Startupdisk Control panel doesn't work with Panther, I
need
to use XPF.
