I'm with you David. I have FinMac2004 installed (mostly to accomodate clients who have upgraded), but most of my work is still done with the 2003 version, mainly because of the speed factor. I'm on several huge projects, an oratorio presently, which will be followed by an opera, and 2k4 version simply doesn't make it for me on these types of pieces. I get better performance out of the previous version.

This reminds me of when Microsoft upgraded Word 5 to the mega monstrosity which was Word 6. I just kept on using Word 5 for several more years, because it suited my needs in word processing.

There is no need to upgrade if you don't feel comfortable with the new version. If you do, that's fine too. The important thing is that, whatever version you do use, you feel it serves your productivity to the max.

One thing is for certain, when the 2005 version does come out, I won't be among the first to purchase it. I'll let others do the 'beta' testing first.

But that doesn't solve the root problem, which is that I'm still
stuck with buggy software.

Rewarding them for producing buggy software is not going to get it fixed, either.

So then what do you suggest people do? I can't say I've every had any
problems with bugs on any version of Finale I have owned, and I have
owned every version since like 2.0.......

Well, revert to the previous workable version for all new work.

When Access 2000 came out I eagerly tried out the new version. It was
a disaster. I took on one project in it and it was even more of a
disaster than I'd expected. I did not do an Access 2000 development
project again for 2.5 years.

My clients were happy.

It's this blind rush into the next version en masse that baffles me.
Why would people start using it in any way other than provisionally
until it has been proven reliable?

Maybe because you develop software you're a little more critical, but
I have to say Finale 2004 for Mac has been a delight to use.

I won't buy it because of the registration scheme.
