Seeing this from a purely technical perspective, I personally think the file-overwrite bug can be very difficult to track down in a release version of Finale unless you don't provide extremely good clues (such as: how do you switch documents? With what method were the files opened? What did you do prior to the file overwrite? Which tools did you use? Did you use any plug-ins prior to the file overwrite? etc etc). Of course, sending a step-by-step list of how the bug is reproduced would be the ideal.
On Mac, you should also do "About This Mac->More Info->Save As->[one of the text formats]" and send that report in along with the Finale bug. Could be a third party item that their QA staff doesn't have installed throwing a monkey wrench into the woiks.
