The plot thickens:

I notice that the file that was corrupted yesterday -- the one where somebody's email address suddenly appeared in place of a staff name, etc. -- has a file called "~TemporarySaveFile~" in the same folder.

This is odd for a number of reasons:

1) This folder -- a subfolder of my "~/Documents/Compositions" folder -- isn't the location Finale is supposed to use for temp files. Nor is it the location Finale is supposed to use for backup files and autosave files. The temp files are being stored in the default directory for Finale temp files, which in MacFin2004 is "Macintosh HD/private/tmp/501/TemporaryItems". I do not have the checkbox for Temporary Items in the Document Options -> Folders checked, but that's the path it shows. The "private" folder is a hidden folder, so I can't see the contents in the Finder, but using OmniDiskSweeper (a *great* little utility), I can verify that Finale Temp Files do exist at that location, and that they are *not* deleted when I quit Finale. But the files in that folder have names like "EnigmaTemp434030", not "~TemporarySaveFile~".

2) According to the Finder, this "~TemporarySaveFile~" was created on Saturday, 03 July, 2004 at 06:29 PM -- i.e., after the corruption occurred, but near the end of the same Finale session. However, it also says it was last modified on Thursday, 27 May, 2004, at 03:09 PM -- in other words, the modification date is *earlier* than the alleged creation date.

3) The file in question is an openable Finale document. In fact, it is *identical* to the corrupted score I sent to MacSupport yesterday, with the email address in place of the staff name, etc.

4) This is the only such file that exists on my HD.

May I ask the Finale listers who so generously agreed to try to reproduce the problem -- where are you storing your temp files? If you have specified a folder other than the default folder (Macintosh HD/private/tmp/501/TemporaryItems), what happens if you (temporarily) remove your preferences from the Finale 2004 folder and/or the ~/Library/Preferences folder ("~" represents your Home folder) and try again to reproduce the bug with a clean set of preferences? (Other than setting the Autosave interval to one minute.)

Also, could I ask my fellow Finale listers -- especially those who *have* seen this problem -- to search their hard drives for "~TemporarySaveFile~"?

Thanks.
