can be large. (And what could those Mac folks have been thinking to make a
folder that you can't look in?)

OS X uses a lot of hidden files. Most UNIX-y cache files and temp files are hidden from the user -- the goal is (A) to prevent hard drive clutter, and (B) to prevent the casual user from accidentally deleting critical files.


99.9999% of the time, this works just fine, because every application I own (except Finale) knows how to clean up after itself. When it is a problem, as Brad said, there are any number of 3rd party apps that will allow you to make all files visible.

And of course, you can specify a different (visible) folder for Finale Temp Files if you want. I may do that and see if it helps.
